Last November the biggest filmindustry on the planet released a remake of Umrao Jaan. Directed by J.P. Dutta and featuring an all-star cast, noteably Aishwarya Rai (of course in the leading role), this glamorous superproduction comes exactly quarter of a century after Muzaffar Ali's intelligent, poetic and simply magnificent cinematic interpretation of the 1905 Urdu novel.

On January 4th Otok is releasing Olivier Assayas's Clean in the Slovene art house cinema network.
The film tells the story of Emily, the widow of a rock star killed by an overdose, who is trying to rebuild her life. When she gets out of prison where she was being held on drugs charges, Emily is determined to get her son back from her parents-in-law. “She discovers herself when she frees herself of everything that is imagined about her,” explains the director. "If there is one overriding idea for this film, it comes from the desire to show that change is possible, that one can become a new person, and that we are not forever chained to our past.”

Z veseljem vas obveščamo, da se v Slovenijo vrača naš gost Kino Otoka 1 Ali-Reza Amini. Na Kino Otoku se je Amini predstavil s filmoma Drobne snežinke in Pisma v vetru. Tokrat Amini prihaja na Ljubljanski filmski festival s svojim novim filmom Zamrznjen čas, ki bo prikazan v Liffovi sekciji Perspektive.

V okviru distribucije Otok se v Kinodvoru in art kino mreži po Sloveniji od 13. septembra dalje prikazuje film Santiagovi dnevi režiserja Josua Mendeza, gosta Kino Otoka 2. Glavni protagonist Santiago Roman se po letih bojevanja kot mlad veteran perujske mornarice vrne v Limo. Pripada izgubljeni generaciji, ki so jo zaznamovali vojna z Ekvadorjem, terorizem v rodni državi in trgovina z mamili. Kot mnogi se je tudi Santiago žrtvoval za napake in neodgovornost domačih oblastnikov, zdaj pa pod težo vojnih spominov išče vero v boljšo prihodnost in se bojuje za preživetje v vsakdanjem življenju. Ko se Santiagov obup in tesnoba zlijeta v napet vrhunec filma, se soočimo z vprašanjem, kaj preostane odpuščenemu vojaku, ki išče upanje, najde pa zgolj razočaranje in notranji nemir.

Yep, it's true. There are still many known and unknown unknowns related to the next Isola Cinema film festival edition (lurking mainly for the festival crew that is!), but as of recently, the time of the festival is no more one of them! Isola Cinema 2007 will take place from May 31st - June 4th 2007! Ok, we said it, now it's out in the open - so you have a lot of time, more than enough in our humble opinion, to reschedule everything you had planned and to come to Izola and enjoy yourselves on sooo many levels!
