CLEAN in Cinemas as of January 4th
On January 4th Otok is releasing Olivier Assayas’s Clean in the Slovene art house cinema network.
The film tells the story of Emily, the widow of a rock star killed by an overdose, who is trying to rebuild her life. When she gets out of prison where she was being held on drugs charges, Emily is determined to get her son back from her parents-in-law. “She discovers herself when she frees herself of everything that is imagined about her,” explains the director. “If there is one overriding idea for this film, it comes from the desire to show that change is possible, that one can become a new person, and that we are not forever chained to our past.”
Around Maggie Cheung, the muse of Asian cinema – and the filmmaker’s ex-wife – Assayas has brought together an international cast including Nick Nolte, Béatrice Dalle, Jeanne Balibar and rapper Tricky (playing himself). The characters move in the world of independent rock, a milieu already treated by a filmmaker who has always placed an emphasis on music in his films.
For her stunning and moving interpretation Maggie Cheung received the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Clean will be running in Kinodvor and the Slovene art-house cinema network as of January 4th.
