A man and a woman live in a village near Berlin. The city seems far away. They’ve loved each other since they were children. Inseparable. They’re now both in their early thirties. Markus is a metalworker and a member of the local fire brigade. Ella works a couple of hours a week as a domestic and sings in the local choir. People eye them with a mixture of astonishment and suspicion: They seem so happy, so innocent—and sometimes clueless as two children. Markus visits the nearest town to attend a training course with his fire brigade. That night there’s a lot of drinking, laughing and dancing. The next morning Markus wakes up in the apartment of the waitress, Rose. He can’t recall much of what happened. When he tries to find out, it’s the beginning of a love that is different, to which he is unaccustomed—yet which doesn’t seem to affect his love for his wife.
