The story’s epicenter, Monobloc, is a huge mass of empty concrete, dead elevators, and deserted roads, conveying a vanished world and the absence of life.
Perla has a daily appointment at the hospital to clean up her blood and delay the arrival of her death. She works at an always empty amusement park, and gets fired as the film starts. She shares a dark, humid apartment with her daughter Nena, who feels boundless love towards her mother and works as a prostitute in their shared bed and space. Their neighbour and constant companion Madrina devotes her days to invade the flat-next-door with outbreaks of joy and alcohol, sometimes making all three forget their tragic destinies. One day, Madrina pretends to have won a free trip to Brazil, which she actually bought, and disappears. Mother and daughter are left alone at last, but the emptiness left by Madrina’s absence renders their universe unbearable.
