About the Filmbank.

Freedom of visual expression is crucial for a thriving filmscene. Experimental films analyse and criticise the mainstream film industry. The Filmbank (established in 2001) is a fresh distributor and promotor of experimental dutch films based in Amsterdam. ‘Experimental film’ in the widest sense of the word, encapsulating work that is inspired by the classic avant-garde or work that explores the relationship between film and other artforms. Films that are unique in their unconventional subject choice, method of working and form and that are so confusing, beautiful, harsh or absurd that they are difficult to forget.
